I stayed at the Big Tree (back then it wasn’t new) 2-3 times 5 years ago. It’s quite affordable (especially during the season) and very well located for getting everywhere by tuk-tuk. It’s now under new management, and they’ve done a lot. There’s now a cocktail bar, a barbecue station, modern restrooms, a kite school, and frequent entertainment. This also attracts many guests from other hotels. However, nothing has been done about the rooms. They’re still secured with a padlock!!! The amenities are sparse (or rather, nonexistent). There’s no fresh water, so it shouldn’t be drinkable, but the salt water is annoying when showering. Furthermore, the shower only produces water from a few jets, which makes it take forever to rinse off the soap. If they can manage to get a tanker truck to arrive every week to fill two pools for a foam party…
