One of the reasons for going to the SO was the Loft. It’s not that easy to find a restaurant open on a public holiday (+Sunday) in Vienna. So we simply looked for a hotel with a good restaurant ;). We had a table booked for 8:30 p.m. and got a nice window seat. Not all of the seats were taken, though. We opted for the 5-course menu, but without the accompanying wines, as we preferred to choose a bottle of red wine. The 5 courses were a bit of a fake, as the welcome from the kitchen also counted as a course (I’ve never had that before). We had a Negroni as an appetizer. This proved to be the first challenge for the staff. It didn’t arrive, and we were already on our second course. This is where our first ‘complaint’ came. The next course arrived before the Negroni, but it was taken away again and a new one came when we’d finished the Negroni 😉 (but the Negroni was on the house 😀 ). We then tried two more red wines (the second one was also perfect). For dessert, we had another small Fopah. We had ordered two different ones, but both received the same one. After reminding them, we received another very friendly apology and the second dessert (which was delicious and would have been a shame to miss). For digestif, we had walnut brandy and Swiss stone pine (also delicious, and we’d never heard of it before). As a consolation, we also received additional pastries with the bill.
Even if the whole thing might sound a bit dissatisfied, it was a very successful evening, thanks in part to the service, who mastered all the ‘problems’ with ease and still had a lot of fun with us. She even came to the bar later to give us a few tips about Vienna.
