This time, the departure was a bit unexpected, as I had to return to Germany quite spontaneously. For comparison, I booked a Thai Airways flight in Economy (albeit the daytime version) to the Premium Economy on the outbound flight. The first changes to Standard meant I couldn’t use the fast lane (Senator is no good here). So, I went up the escalator to baggage check and then back down to passport control. Although the lines were quite long, the whole process went quite quickly (less than 30 minutes). Afterwards, as usual, I went to the Singapore lounge and ate a few snacks 🤭. This time, the departure wasn’t from C, but from D4, which is right next to the Thai lounge exit (and about 100m from the Singapore lounge). Boarding was five minutes late, but we still left on time. The seat is definitely a bit narrower, and you can’t recline it quite as far, but you do get a footrest. They also serve two meals (here, I had two chicken curries, once with rice and once with noodles), which tasted okay. But the flight confirmed my belief that the difference between Premium Economy and Economy isn’t really worth the extra cost.
Oh yes, then I took the ICE train home (where I had a wheat beer). Even though I only had 25 minutes, I actually made the best connection. It’s a good thing that EU citizens can use the passport machines (when they are open and working). The poor others had to queue at three ticket counters!!!
