Tom Yum Gong is one of my favorite dishes in Thailand, so if you google ‘best tom yum goong bangkok’ you inevitably come up with Pe Aor. So my expectations are naturally quite high. Unfortunately I have to say that these are not really met. The soup is basically strained, meaning there are no ingredients (tomatoes, mushrooms, roots, kefir…) in it, which is a shame and doesn’t really add to the flavor. The whole thing relies more on the ingredients, such as lobster or river prawns. But it’s still a rather mediocre Tom Yum Goong (oh yes, salmon doesn’t belong in this at all, as it is one thing above all else: hard and dry 🤷), which I even had to add more spice. This doesn’t detract from the success of the establishment; when I left there was a queue of guests waiting.
