A quick recap of the Mercure. Booking was a difficult experience. I (and my boyfriend) tried several times using the All Accor app, always with the same result: error. After the fourth attempt, I immediately called the hotline. They could see the booking, but because it was too close to the arrival date (6 days until arrival), they couldn’t do anything. They told me to email the hotel directly (WTF, why do I need a hotline?). But I did that, and I received two replies: one with the price listed in the app and one from the sales manager (I had mentioned the poor service in the email). The one from the sales manager was significantly cheaper, and to top it all off, I was upgraded immediately upon arrival.
Okay, now to the hotel itself. On the one hand, the location is great if you want to do something in the evening (plenty of bars and clubs). However, there is a downside if you don’t stay out until late. The windows aren’t particularly soundproof, so you can hear the music from the various bars. The room furnishings are a bit older but still look good. There was a shower and a bathtub, but the shower was only overhead, which was a bit annoying given how long it took to heat up. The internet is my main criticism. On the one hand, it’s quite slow, and on the other hand, logging in with a username and password via a pop-up box is annoying (that’s always tricky with my routers and browsers). On top of that, the number of devices that can log in is limited (I haven’t had that in ages). The rest of the service was good; the rooms were almost always cleaned during my pool break. I never tried breakfast, even though it was included in the package. What I did use was the laundry service, which worked great (although I was surprised that, as a guest, you don’t get a single one out of four copies). However, the whole thing was a bit expensive, so I might use an outside service next time.
